Young women who have had an operation which preserves the breast and are then treated with chemo or hormonal therapy have a significantly lower chance of local recidivism. This appears from the biggest study among young women that has appeared in the literature thus far. It was carried out by two recent graduates of the University of Maastricht, Marloes van der Leest and Lisette Evers, and supervised by Dr Adri Voogd within the epidemiology group in the University of Maastricht.
